Jamin served 4 years with Compass Aviation, an organization whose goal is to assist candidates for mission aviation in building flight time and maintenance experience so they are able to join a mission aviation agency and get on the field. For example, New Tribes Mission (with whom we are currently training for service overseas), requires that missionary aviators have a minimum of 300 PIC (pilot in command) flight hours and one year of maintenance experience in addition to a commercial pilot's license and an A&P mechanic's license.
When we started at Compass in Shelby, NC, Jamin had his A&P from LeTourneau University as well as his private and instrument ratings and only 85 hours pilot in command. In the time we were there, he gained ample experience in the maintenance shop and earned his commercial pilot's license. He has also been given the opportunity to raise his total PIC flight time to over 500 hours at very little cost to us, as well as obtain his Inspection Authorization (IA). Compass was a tremendous blessing and spared us a phenomenal cost, allowing us to continue on to our next step of training with confidence.
